Catherine Roche
A sense of history, an infinity of layers, ambiguity and a need to search feed my work. Through the paintings I am investigating the idea of the past, present and future and their interconnection and
reliance upon each other.
The paintings are of no one image, but an amalgamation of many, derived from various sources. Eccentricities in images and forms have always concerned me and informed my work, but it seems that more and more the physical quality and associations of the paint alone are allowing me to express my intentions. A sense of voyeurism is presnt. Moments. incidents in paint, which seem fleeting and transitory are held still. I am imposing a new criteria on something which seemed mutable and metaphoric -
a frozen moment into which the viewer is enticed.
